Calendar Flexibility Solutions

While many parents, teachers, and school board members would like to see full restoration of calendar flexibility at the local level, we know that our legislative process is slow. One proposed solution for example would simply allign the current k-12 calendars with those of the community colleges.

There are about 38 house calendar bills and 15 senate bills addressing calendar flexibility. Most are individual local bills and most have been sent directly to rules.

Calendar Bills covering all of North Carolina:

HB 79: Would allow local boards of education to align their school calendars with local community colleges

HB 117: Would establish a school calendar flexibility pilot program to determine the impact of calendar flexibility

HB 232: An act to provide additional flexibility to local boards of education in adopting the school calendar
